1922 Portrait of G R Sims known as 'Dagonet' or 'Daguenet' (a name adopted from that of a Knight of the Round Table in Arthurian legend) - George Robert Sims (1847 – 1922) was an English journalist, novelist, poet, dramatist, playwright, satirist,novelist and ballad writer. Though a lover of the good things in life he actively supported social reform, particularly amonst the poor in London's slums. He was a keen sportsman and even bred bulldogs. He is well known for his monologue 'Christas Day in theWorkhouse'
