The abbey was plundered in 1525 during the German Peasants' War. The today's church was built in the years 1739–47 under supervison of Johann Michael Fischer (1692–1766) of Munich. The style is called German Baroque and is dominated by the gothic statue of Maria from 1430. The name of the church is "Münster Unserer Lieben Frau Zwiefalten".
