Wooden statue of Binzuru (Pindola Bharadvaja)s, one of sixteen arahats (arhat) who were disciples of the buddha. Pindola is said to have excelled in the mastery of occult powers. Plaque by statue says that " it is commonly believe in Japan that if a person rubs a part of the image of Binzuru and then rubs the corresponding part of his own body, his ailment there will disappear." Statue is outside the the Daibutsu-den, part of the temple of Todai-ji which houses the Great Buddha. Japan's largest bronze statue. The Daibutsu-den is still the world's largest wooden hall.
