Statue of the great bullfighter Cayetano Ordóñez, known as El Niño de La Palma.


Cayetano Ordóñez, founder of the second bullfighting dynasty, was born 24 January 1904 in Ronda,Spain and died 30 October 1961 in Madrid,Spain. His parents owned a shoeshop called La Palma and it was from this that he acquired his nickname - Niño de La Palma - Son of La Palma. He first began to perform as a bullfighter in 1917 in the ranches of the area were he lived, In 1923 he had his debut in Ronda, where he became the first bullfighter to be carried in triumph through the main gates of the Maestranza. In 1924 he caused further great excitement in Seveille when the same thing happened again! From that time he became in great demand by all the professional and amateur rings in Spain. His last bullfight was at Aranda de Duero in 1942. He was the director of the Lisbon School of Bullfighting and died in Madrid on 30 October 1961. He is the founder of the Ordóñez family of bullfighters. This statue of the great man is situated outside the main gates of the bullring in Ronda.
