Quartz Nanorods, Nanotechnology
Hydrothermally synthesized, single-crystal quartz nanorods may be used for the study of geochemical dissolution and deposition processes. In nanotechnology, nanorods are one morphology of nanoscale objects. Each of their dimensions range from 1-100 nm. They may be synthesized from metals or semiconducting materials. Nanorods are produced by direct chemical synthesis. Nanotechnology (nanotech) is the manipulation of matter on an atomic, molecular, and supramolecular scale. Geochemistry is the science that uses the tools and principles of chemistry to explain the mechanisms behind major geological systems such as the Earth's crust and its oceans. The realm of geochemistry extends beyond the Earth, encompassing the entire Solar System.
