Jeremiah, interactive virtual head, with his creator Dr Richard Bowden of the University of Surrey, England. Jeremiah is capable of recognising people and objects and responding to their behaviour by displaying emotion. For example, he will respond to a visual stimulus, such as a person waving, by smiling; if he can't see movement, or what he sees is repetitive, he displays boredom. Jeremiah is based on technology developed for a security system. He can run on a single PC. His head is a projection onto canvas, above which is a camera providing his visual input. Jeremiah is used in educational performances.
