Storage building at The Howk, Caldbeck, Cumbria

The Howk Bobbin Mill is in the Howk Gorge near Caldbeck in the northern Lake District. It was powered by the waters of the Cald Beck as they passed through the gorge. Wood for the bobbins came from areas of ancient coppiced woodland in the valley and surrounding area. Raw materials and finished products would have been transported to and from the site by horse and cart. The photo shows the ruins of the storage shed.
