Pirillos (Physopyxis lyra). X-ray of a section through two Pirillos, showing the large ornate pectoral spines that extend from their sides. When locked in an open position, these spines prevent predators from swallowing them. Pirillos are South American thorny catfish (family Doradidae). These specimens measure 3 centimetres in length.
