A gold-inlaid Syrian shamshir, 19th century A heavy single-edged blade of beautifully patterned wootz-Damascus. A buduh mark (protective magic square), a cartouche "Work of Assad Allah", and the date "1121" (= 1709) inlaid in gold on the obverse side. Iron quillons and grip with geometric and floral gold inlay. Shagreen leather-covered wooden scabbard with broad silver wire stitching and iron mountings with gold inlay en suite.
