A late 19th Century portrait of Tiglath-Pileser II, was a prominent king of Assyria in the eighth century BCE who ruled from 745–727 BCE and introduced advanced civil, military, and political systems into the Neo-Assyrian Empire. He made sweeping changes to the Assyrian government, considerably improving its efficiency and security and created Assyria's first professional standing army.
