In looks, the loaves were simi-lar to our homemade bread, only not so large,and those ants would get away with a loafin twenty-four hours if left where they couldget at it. Three of us had a large tent and one nightdevised a scheme to fool them. We took ourloaf of bread, tied a string to it and hung it upto the ridge pole, but the next morning thatloaf of bread was about as big as a good sizedbiscuit. The ants were crawling up the tentpole, over the ridge pole and then down thestring. We had to go without bread that day. I remember a little incident which happenedon the boat
