The University has a general library containing about 17,0X3 volumes, and is developing ascries of special libraries devoted to the technical work of the several departments, amongwhich the law library, the Woodman Astronomical Library and the agricultural library arethe more considerable. Smaller libraries are being foimed relating to pharmacy, engineer-ing, zoology, botany, geology, mineralogy, physics, German, chemistry and other subjects. Besides these, which belong to the University, there are aocessible to students the StateHistorical Library, 130,000 volumes, including pamplilets: the State Law Library, 20,000volumes, and the City Library, 9,000 volumes, altogether, constituting library facilities sur-passed at only a few places in this country.
