An uncooked male, or cock, spider crab, Maja brachydactyla, that was caught in a drop net baited with a pollack’s head near Weymouth in Dorset England UK GB. Spider crabs caught in Atlantic waters are named M. brachydactyla while those in the Mediterranean are named M. squinado. The difference between the two is very slight. The picture shows the claws that are much larger in the males than in the females.
