Preparing copper sulphate solution. Spatula of copper (II) sulphate crystals (CuSO4, blue) about to be added to a test tube of water. Copper (II) sulphate is very soluble in water. The blue colour is due to the presence of a hydrated complex of the copper ion. For the solution after the copper (II) sulphate has dissolved, see image A350/221.
