The greatest heat, 97°, occurred on the 5th, in 1S52; anon the 30th, in 1849. During the period 152 days were tine, and on 100 rain fell. e highest and lowestd the lowest cold, 35%. PEAS, AND HOW TO GEOW THEM. O serve the table no vegetablecontributes more than thePea—the Potato always ex-cepted. It does moderatelywell on all soils, and in allparts of our climate, high ele-vations excepted. Peas, however,do best on lightish loams, and in-differently on a clay a very early crop the soilcan hardly be too light, for it isnot quality nor quantity that isaimed at, but extreme somewhat stronger soil is bestto affordasuccessionof early Peas,and a deep, loamy soil is whatsuits main crops. Heavy soilswith a good deal of marl in themafford excellent Peas late in theseason, and in dry summers heavysoil is better than light. Takenin a general way, Peas delight in deep, rich, and friableloamy soil, and by well exposing heavy soil to the in-fluence of the weather, and forking it over on dry, frostymornings, the most tenacious soil may be brought into acondition to suit this crop
