Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide (Cu2CO3(OH)2, a mineral of very characteristic green color that usually occurs in banded, bulbous or stalactitic forms. It most often forms by precipitation from hydrothermal fluids in voids or fractures at great subsurface depth. Its habitat is nearly always amorphous, crystals being very rare. Actual height of sample is 24 cm, origin is Katanga in the Republic of Congo.
