In previous pages of this Guidewe have described some of the more striking features ofthe coast scenery of the island ; but of course the ruggedoutline of cliff and headland is more picturesque when seenfrom the deck of the steamer, which keeps as near to theshore as is consistent with safety. Douglas Head, 315 feet high, is rounded, and then comethe picturesque Port Soderick, St. Annes Head, and theattractive coast of Derby Haven. There is a dangerous reefoff the pemnsula of Langness, and Manxmen tell the storyof the wreck of the liace-horse war sloop, nearly fifty yearsago, and many catastrophes since that tijne.
