In dismaythe daring intruders now sought their boat as a means ofspeedy flight, but as they put off from the land it filledwith water, and hurriedly jumping from it they followeda track across the meadows, in their hasty exit leavingbehind them, hidden in the sedge, the money they hadstolen and the silverware.
