Hoe often and earth up a little until the plants are a foot high, when they must be sup- plied with supports, or be allowed to spread on the ground. It is so hardy and vigorous in growth that a verj- early planting can be made in the open ground. T<velve specimens have been exhibited that wsighed 16^:; pounds, and one monster tipping the scale at nearly four pounds. The vines are strong and vigorous, its fruits are very free from ridges . The skin is very firm, mak- ing it a fine variety for shipping purposes.
