Brain arteriovenous malfunction. Magnetic Reson- ance Imaging (MRI) angiogram of the brain of a patient showing arteriovenous malfunction (AVM). The patient was female, 18 years old, who suffered this defect from birth (congenital). Cerebral blood vessels (white) are seen in three-dimensions with the affected area at lower right. Abnormal blood vessels form a balloon-like structure; this caused death of brain tissue around it. AVM may be present at birth or may result from injury or disease. Brain function may be seriously impaired. A dye was injected into these blood vessels. Photo M136/087 shows the brain damage of this patient.
