This concern manufactured the first locomotive in the South which was madeout of native materials, and during the Civil War supplied the Confederacy withcannon. The plant was located at the N., C. & St. L. Railway and the foot of Street. It was destroyed in 1864 by Gen. Sherman and rebuilt after thewar.
