This is no doubt partly explained by thedifficulty of cultivating any but spring flowers in so hotand dry a climate, and the result has been a wonderfuldevelopment of the more permanent effects to be ob-tained from the three other factors in garden-composi-tion— marble, water and perennial verdure — and theachievement, by their skilful blending, of a charm inde-pendent of the seasons.
