This is a scene from what Alice saw once she went through the Looking Glass and into the Looking Glass room in Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass." Here the White King asks the messenger, a rabbit, for a ham sandwich, while Alice looks on. Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) wrote the novel "Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There" in 1871 as a sequel to "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland."
