St. Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall, Orkney, Scotland is over 870 years old, built of local polychromatic sandstone in Norman architecture, by Vikings!
Amazingly, this cathedral was built by Vikings! It's long history begins over 870 years ago as a repository for the bones and relics of St. Magnus, an earl murdered by his cousin about 1117. When I first went into it, DURHAM passed immediately through my mind as I viewed the construction. It is thought that possibly stone masons who had trained at Durham were hired to do St. Magnum. Both are massive stone Cathedrals of similar style.
