Retired Navy Capt. Dexter Rumsey II, who had a support role flying patrol planes during the Battle of Midway, speaks during the 71st BOM anniversary ceremony held on Naval Station Norfolk. The historic and decisive battle, which took place June 4-7, 1942, is regarded as the turning point in the Pacific during World War II, Navy carrier strike forces, augmented by shore-based bombers and torpedo planes, decisively defeated an Imperial Japanese navy carrier task force during the battle.
