The Royal Navy during the Second World War As can be seen here when they get a chance, which is not very often, the men sling their hammocks and make the most of it. Their usual bed at sea is the deck on board the Polish Navy destroyer ORP Piorun (Thunderbolt), formerly HMS Nerissa.
