A pitcher of this charactershows an engraving of the ship Astrea of Wiscasset, and itis known that this vessel was built at that place in 1793 byGeneral Abiel Wood, one of the largest ship-owners at thattime in New England. Her burthen was 458 tons, and Alex-ander Askins was her first master. In 1802 she was lost atsea, and, singularly enough, the pitcher which was made forher is now in the possession of a collector of old china inEngland.
