Fernando Castro, a low altitude air defense gunner with 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing provides surface-to-air defense using the FIM-92 Stinger during Castaway at Ie Shima, Okinawa, Japan, March 16, 2021. The exercise demonstrated the Marine Corps’ ability to integrate with the joint force to seize and defend key maritime terrain, provide low-signature sustainment, and execute long-range precision fires in support of naval operations from an expeditionary advanced base. Castro is a native of Atlanta, Georgia.
