As an exception, however, the trusses andcross sills are built heavier, and the roof is heavily reinforcedwith iron carlines, J/2 in. x 23/2 ins. in section, placed over each -4llTbCtr Line-. A NEW TYPE OF AMERICAN DOUBLE-DECK CAR An interesting attempt toward the adaptation of the double-deck car principle to American street railway operating condi-tions has recently been made at Minneapoli , Minn., in the in-troduction of a novel type of convertible double-deck car. Theneed of better facilities for handling the heavy summer trafficof the operating company, the Twin City Rapid Transit Com-pany, between Minneapolis, St. Paul and the two importantsummer resorts reached by their lines, has for some time beenfelt, and the new design of car described below was suggestedas perhaps more convenientand flexible in operationthan the trail cars originallyin use. The principal details ofthe new car are shown inthe accompanying view anddrawings.
