This valley is made up of fertile slopes, beautiful and productive plains, well adapted to agricul-tural and grazing purposes, and contains within its limitsthe chief cities and the greater portion of the inhabitantsof the republic. It has a tropical climate. The seasonsare divided into the wet and dry, the wet embracing themonths from May to November, and the dry the remainingpart of the year. The temperature is equable, seldom ris-ing above 90°, or falling below 74°. The soil is admirably adapted to the growth of all thegreat staples of the tropics. Indigo, sugar, cacao, tobacco, rice, coffee, cotton, etc., may all be successfully grown, butignorance, indolence, and political disturbance have so. ■■■■I
