Vintage portrait photo circa 1926 of American comic actor, director, producer and writer Buster Keaton (1895 - 1966). Legend has it that Keaton, born Joseph Frank Keaton, became known as "Buster" after escaping injury during a nasty fall down some theatre steps as a child. The incident is said to have occurred in front of Harry Houdini who exclaimed to Keaton's father: "What a buster your kid took!" Keaton is best remembered for his trademark physical comedy and deadpan expression in silent movies of the 1920s such as Sherlock Jr (1924), The General (1926) and Steamboat Bill Jr (1928) and his blank facial expression also won him the nickname of "The Great Stone Face". Keaton is pictured during the making of The General. Photo by Bain News Service.
