In themonths of that same year, Dudley Hargrove, a licensed localpreacher of the Methodist Episcopal Church, at the head of hisfamily, including all his grown sons except Benjamin, the sec-ond son, emigrated from Hancock County, Georgia, and pitchedhis tent in the then wilderness by a big spring, one of the sourcesof Big Sandy Creek, in what is Section thirty-five. That So-ciety lias continued till now, 1889, though the meeting houses inwhich that Society has assembled from time to time to worshiphave been at different places in the community at different one time the meeting house stood right near the place firstsettled by Dudley Hargrove. The house now in use is, perhaps,three miles from the spot originally occupied, and is named Pleas-ant Hill, sometimes called Hargroves. The Rev. Dudley Hargrove was really the patriarch of thatSociety, organized at or near the place of his tirst settlement inAlabama, and his eldest son, Daniel J. Hargrove, was the firstclass-leader there.
