Leaf veins. Macrophotograph of a leaf from a lime tree (Tilia sp.) showing the leaf veins dividing diagonally into successively finer vessels. The branching arrangement seen here distinguishes dicotyledonous flowering plants from the monocotyledons, which have narrow leaves and parallel veins.
