It is proper to add that Pro-fessor Smith bequeathed some Oriental manu-scripts to the Camibridge University Library,and all the rest of his books to the library ofChrists College, Cambridge. Two portaits ofhim were painted by Sir George Reid, One, dated 1875. was in the custodyof his mother, and was destined for the com-bination room of Christs College, se/cond, painted1 in 1896 was placed bv sub-scribers in the hall of the Free Church College,Aberdeen. Thedeath of Professor Binnie had left theChair of Church History vacant, and Robertson, , formerly Principalof the Calcutta College, was chosen to fillit. On the death of Principal Brown,Professor Salmond was appointed to theprincipal ship. A scholar of distinction, anuntiring worker, and a man of devotedspirit, Principal Salmond has left behindhim the memory of a strenuous and earnestlife. His contributions to the literatureof theology gave him a wide reputation,and his name will live through some of hispublished works. He died in 1905, and wassucceeded in the principalship by who still holds the office.
