Great Eastern in Southampton, June 1860 just a year after its launch. The Great Eastern was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and at the time of its launch in January 1858 it was by far the largest ship ever built. Great Eastern had a 30 year career as a passenger ship and cable laying ship before being scrapped in 1890.
