Pioneer Living History Museum: Community Church, Interior
In the far northern reaches of Phoenix, lies a delightful, historic place — the Pioneer Living History Museum. This 90-acre destination contains historic and reconstructed buildings from the latter part of the 19th century through the early part of the 20th century. Additionally, as it says on their website, "costumed interpreters including cowboys, lawmen, and lovely Victorian ladies – await you at Pioneer Living History Village, Arizona’s most authentic Old West town." The center of most western towns was the Community church. This structure was reconstructed patterned after St. Paul’s Methodist Episcopal Church from Globe, Arizona. The original church was torn down in 1927 and the property sold. The reconstructed church was painstakingly crafted based on church records, original photos, newspaper clippings, personal interviews, and over 1500 hours of research. The church holds Sunday services and is available for rent as a wedding venue. Two of the original pews were donated to the museum and were used as patterns for the replicas seen here.
