Astronaut Alan Bean on the Moon during the Apollo 12 moon landings, holding equipment for experiments. The second manned mission to land on the Moon, Apollo 12, arrived in the Ocean of Storms on 19 November 1969. Astronauts Charles Conrad and Alan Bean made two excursions on the surface for a total of 7 hours 45 minutes. They retrieved parts of a robot, Surveyor 3, left there years previously, and used seismometers to investigate the seismology of the Moon.
