Old Faithful

Eruptions can shoot 3,700 to 8,400 US gallons (14,000 to 32,000 l) of boiling water to a height of 106 to 185 feet (32 to 56 m) lasting from to 5 minutes. The average height of an eruption is 145 feet (44 m).[7] The highest recorded eruption was 185 feet (56 m) high. Intervals between eruptions can range from 45 to 125 minutes, averaging minutes in 1939[8], slowly increasing to an average of 90 minutes apart today[9]. More than 137,000 eruptions have been recorded. Harry Woodward first described a mathematical relationship between the duration and intervals of the eruptions (1938).[8][10]. Old Faithful is not the tallest or largest geyser in the park; that title belongs to the less predictable Steamboat Geyser.[4] Its popularity is more likely due to the small eruption window and high frequency. [edit]Increasing interval Over the years, the length of the interval has increased, which may be the result of earthquakes affecting subterranean water levels. These disruptions have made the earlier mathematical relationship inaccurate, but have in fact made Old Faithful more predictable. With a margin of error of 10 minutes, Old Faithful will erupt 65 minutes after an eruption lasting less than minutes or 91 minutes after an eruption lasting more than minutes. The reliability of Old Faithful can be attributed to the fact that it is not connected to any other thermal features of the Upper Geyser Basin.[11] Yellowstone National Park, established by the Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872,[3][4] is a national park located primarily in the state of Wyoming, though it also extends into Montana and Idaho. Yellowstone was the first national park in the world, and is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful Geyser, one of the most popular features in the park.[1] It has many types of ecosystems, but the subalpine forest is dominant. Native Americans have lived in the Yellows
