Swainson's Hawk (Buteo swainsoni) is a large hawk of the bird family Accipitridae. Their average length is 48 cm or 19 inches with a wingspan of 117-147 cm or 46-58 inches. Their average weight is 905 grams or 2 Adults have long broad wings with dark flight feathers. They have a dark brown back and upper wing. There are two main colour variations: 1. Light morph birds are white on the underparts and underwings; they have a grey tail with dark bars and a reddish breast or bib. Their head is brown with a white patch on the chinches 2. Dark morph birds are dark brown except for a light patch under the tail. There is a rufous variant that is lighter on the underparts with reddish bars.
