Metairie Cemetery New Orleans. Cenotaph of Angèle Marie Langles 105 La. 39.

Cenotaph of Angèle Marie Langles 105 La. 39. Angele Langles - June 4, 1864 - Death 4 Jul 1898. Drowned. Along with her mother, she died in the sinking of the steamship "La Bourgoyne." The inscription on her monument, 105 La. 39, refers to the Louisiana Supreme Court legal case which settled her estate; the question was, without witnesses, whether she or her mother perished first in the sinking. It was decided that Angele, being younger and able to swim, lived longer than her mother, although the mother was described as robust and the daughter being frail. A cenotaph is a burial monument without a grave. The grave of Angèle Marie Langles being at sea. Metairie Cemetery New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, USA Plot Sec. 2
