His obituary notice, which appeared in the Salem Register of August23, 1827, gives him a high character and speaks of him as one of the mostenterprising and successful merchants of Salem. A very handsome whitemarble altar tomb, inscribed with his name and the date 1800, is in theBroad Street Burying Ground.
