Birling Gap, East Sussex, continues along the chalk cliffs, with regular rockfalls. Unaware of the risks many get close to the edge. Coastguard cottage no3 is almost gone. Commiseration to the Oaten family who had expected another 5 to 7 years holiday use but 7 years erosion in as many months has required the property to be demolished as it was being undercut. No 4 now has a newly rendered outer end wall. If erosion continues at this years rate it may also meet the same fate next used specialist equipment and did not take Burr/Alamy Live News
