Llechwedd Slate Quarry / Mine under snow as viewed form the A410 traveling into Blaenau Ffestiniog.


A view of the working slate mine/quarry Llechwedd under snow in february of winter 2010 from the A470 road on the crimea pass. the slate mine produces blue slate compared to the purple slate of Bethesda and is opposite the largest open slate min in the world, Gloddfa Ganol. Llechwedd is one of Blaenau Ffestiniog's top tourist attractions. The Ffestiniog steam railway used to transport the slate to Prothmadog to be shipped ot of the docks to other locations.
