A late 19th century view of the south quays along the River Suir as it flows through Waterford, the oldest city in the Republic of Ireland. In the early 1700s, the city walls facing the river were demolished and the remains used to widen the quays. To the left is Reginald's Tower, the oldest civic building in Ireland situated in the city's Viking Triangle. It was built by the Anglo-Normans after their conquest of Waterford, replacing an earlier Viking fortification in the 13th century.

In the late 19th century it became the residence of the Chief Constable of Waterford.
