. Agricultural societies newsletter. Agriculture. RURAL OUTREACH 1988 A pilot project involving joint efforts of selected agricultural societies and the Agriculture in the Classroom Program is planned for the 1988-89 school year in 6 to 10 rural communities throughout the province. The program will be designed to operate similar to the "Adopt a Classroom Programs" which have been very successful. Participating agricultural societies will use Ag. in the Classroom lesson plans and resources and will make 3 to 5 visits to their adopted classroom. The objective of this program is to raise student awareness of Alberta's agriculture industry, its diversity and some of the important concepts. Cooperating agricultural society members will attend an orientation and training session which will help them to plan their presentations of this curriculum related material. The Urban Outreach Program which operated in some cities in the spring of 1988 will be used as a model for the Rural Outreach. The urban program was extremely well received. Evaluations by teachers were unanimously positive for the more that 1,000 presentations. We anticipate that the rural program will enjoy similar success. Selected agricultural societies will be contacted to offer them the opportunity to be a part of the pilot project.
