View S a small window lighting the internal stairs of the D-shaped Welsh Tower in the upper ward of Ewloe Castle, Flintshire, Wales, UK. Possibly built by the Welsh prince Llywelyn ab Iorwerth after 1210, but most likely built (or refurbished) after 1257 by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd (the Last). The strongly defended site is on the English side of Offa's Dyke, it fell into Welsh hands in 1146 when Owain Gwynedd may have built a simple motte and bailey castle on the outcrop. By 1277 the site had lost its importance after the English conquest of Tegeingl & the building of Flint Castle by Edward I.
