The Blunt Hook ( 7).—A blunt hook, consistingof a straight shank with an ex-tremity whose curve should besuch as to fit the inguinal regionof the fetus, is advised by someas affording means for strongertraction. It is passed up, as isthe catheter for placing the fillet, between two fingers of the lefthand and the childs body. Itspoint is rotated so that whendrawn down its curve lies in thegroin and its point is felt be-tween the thighs. The sameprecautions must be taken inregard to the line of traction as with the fillet. With this, as with the fillet, a finger in the groin may assistwhen the breech has been brought sufficiently low. 5. Forceps.—This may be applied to the breech as a last resortceps, page 1003.). The obstetrician must rely upon external abdominalpressure alone, or combined with digital traction in the groin, or the use of the 972 OBSTETRIC SURGERY.
