Beers, for many years president ot 32. 8TEWAKT BROWNE 33 the New York Life Insurance Company, who invited him toenter the service of the New York Life, as its New Englandmanager, and he subsequently became manager of the companysbusiness at London, England. Upon the retuement of President Beers and the election ofthat well-known financier and insurance expert, John A. McCall,to the presidency, the latter appointed Mr. Browne his con-fidential assistant, which position he held until October, 1899. During his career on both sides of the Atlantic Mr. Brownehas been indirectly identified with a number of financial and in-surance interests, and has traveled all over the world on specialmissions. While with the New York Life he organized theNational Sui-ety Company and became its vice-president, andalso organized and became president of the International Bank-ing and Trust Company, which has been merged in the NorthAmerican Trust Company.
