[After Higgins). *Higgins recommends the Romanowsky stain as modified by Dut- ton'and Todd for sections or preparations from pus. The formula for the stain and method for its use are as follows: Stain: Eosin, aqueous solution i part Borrell's Blue i ' Water 8 parts Mix just before using and filter. Suspend the preparations (sections fixed to the slide) upside down on the stain to saturate them from below, to avoid precipitate. Stain in this solution for thirty minutes. Wash thoroughly in water, then in a 10 solution of tannic acid, which willbrighten the color, and again wash in water. Dehydrate in alcohol, clear and mount in xylol balsam. The stain as above prepared spoils quickly.
