Darlington Street, Wolverhampton, circa 1920s. Darlington Street at the junction with Chapel Ash. On the right next to Dodds's 'Choc' Shop stand St. Mark's Schools. The image presents an interesting study of the provision of gas lighting in the town. It appears that what must have been a busy junction was well illuminated. The image also shows how the transformation occurred from horse-drawn transport to powered transport in the form of the van and the car. It also shows the different types of transport in the town. Further up the street stand the distinctive towers and dome of the Methodist Chapel. Darlington Street was cut through in 1821 and named after Lord Darlington, who later sold the land to the Town Commissioners.
